Exclusive: Technical scouting chief Ollie Waldron leaves Leicester City

Ollie Waldron has left his role as Head of Technical Scouting at Leicester City Football Club.

Waldron rejoined the club as a Technical Scout in March 2015 and was promoted to Head of Technical Scouting eight months later.

It is understood that he will join Eduardo Macià’s scouting department at Ligue 1 side Bordeaux.

Waldron, who was an analyst for the Leicester City from 2012 to 2013, is highly valued by senior staff at the club and they were reluctant to see him leave King Power Stadium.

“Ollie left a while ago and he’s joining Eduardo at Bordeaux,” a source said. “Leicester rate him very highly and Bordeaux are gaining a very talented recruiter. It’s no surprise that Eduardo wanted to take him across to his new club.

“He was responsible for all the technical scouting via video footage and he also organised the match schedules of all the club’s senior scouts.”

Leicester are looking for Waldron’s replacement but nobody has been identified so far. A job advert for the role of Head of Technical Scouting is currently live on lcfc.com, the club’s official website.

It could pave the way for Rob Mackenzie, who is Head of Technical Scouting at Oud-Heverlee Leuven, to return to the club. OH Leuven are owned by King Power International, the same company that own Leicester City.

Mackenzie was previously Head of Technical Scouting at King Power Stadium before he left the club to join Tottenham Hotspur as Head of Player Identification.

He was briefly Director of Recruitment at Derby County, working under Nigel Pearson once more, before moving on to do freelance consultancy work. It was during that time that he picked up the role at OH Leuven.
